Glanville on the mend
still promotes Bubba Bear's Race Against Childhood Cancer (5-12-03) On Saturday evening, after being released from the hospital after a crash in qualifying at Kentucky Speedway, the Coach Jerry Glanville paid tribute to the rescue workers that spared him serious injury.

"Man, I was sure happy to see the rescue personnel respond like they did," said Glanville. "The car just exploded into flames and I was unable to get free right away. The first rescuer sprayed me down to prevent the flames from burning me more.....because of that, I escaped serious injury."

Glanville was not only in Kentucky to race competitively, he was also there to promote a benefit that he has become very attached to - the Bubba Bear's Race Against Childhood Cancer, a program that supports childhood cancer research through an affiliation with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.

"When I first spoke to Coach Glanville in the hospital on Saturday morning, he started apologizing for not being able to race tonight for the kids at St. Jude," said Benny Sims, President of Bubba Bear Properties. "There he was with his right arm and shoulder wrapped for the burns he had sustained, yet all he was worried about was not being able to make a difference for the kids that are in their own race against childhood cancer. That's the kind of man Jerry is...he wants to make a difference in these kids' lives. I told him that he already had and when he's ready to race again, he will continue to do so."

Glanville Motor Sports Inc. next scheduled ARCA RE/MAX Series race is the June 14th Flagstar 200 at Michigan Int'l Speedway in Brooklyn, MI.
