 | HICKORY NC (5-11-03) Jason Jarrett steered the ML Motorsports #67 to a solid fifth place finish this past weekend in the Channel 5-205 ARCA RE/MAX Series event at Kentucky Speedway. Jarrett, currently in third place in the point standings, is now just 15 points out of second. |
After several hours of torrential rain and thunderstorms, the weather cleared up just in time to get the track dried, and the race went ahead as scheduled.
Jarrett, starting from the sixth position, managed to keep the car in the top six throughout the race. Caution came out on lap 37 bringing about the first pit stop of the night. Jarrett reported the car was a little loose going in and tight in the center of the corner. The decision was made to take a pound of pressure out of the left front and a half pound out of the left rear. Jarrett also reported oil on the windshield.
Jarrett came back onto the track in sixth place after making adjustments and taking on four tires and fuel.
Back under green, Jarrett picked up a couple of positions, and was in position to start running down the third place car of Matt Hagans when caution came out again for debris on the track prompting a second round of pit stops.
Getting back on the track, Jason reported that the car felt like the lug nuts on the right side were loose, and with only six cars on the lead lap, they brought the car back in to tighten them up before the restart.
In the remaining laps, Jarrett was able to get by Mark Gibson and move up to fifth place. Jarrett then mounted a charge on fourth place runner Shelby Howard, but the last set of tires left the car a little too tight, and Jarrett was unable to make the pass.
Following the race, the guys on the pit crew were ‘beating themselves up’ over the problems that occurred on pit road, but Jarrett, as always, continued to champion this group.
‘I’ve got the best pit crew out there’ remarked Jarrett. ‘This team works hard, practicing several times throughout the week to bring about great pit stops. The enthusiasm and dedication to getting the job done right is what these guys are all about, and I’m really proud of what they’ve accomplished so far this season,’ said Jarrett.
Next up for the ARCA RE/MAX Series; Lowe's Motor Speedway, Thursday, May 22nd with coverage on SPEED Channel beginning at 9 pm eastern.
Jason Jarrett is the driver for the #67 ML Motorsports Biomet-Damon RV sponsored Chevrolet Monte Carlo, and is also a member of the Coca-Cola Racing Family.
