as 20-year-old Tennessee native Josh Weston prepares for debut at Kentucky SPARTA KY (5-8-03) | |
Josh Weston, a 20-year old native of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, will make his ARCA RE/MAX Series debut in the No. 97 Wirtgen America-Red Arrow Delivery Pontiac this weekend at the Kentucky Speedway. Weston, who has been racing since the age of eight, tested at the 1.5-mile tri-oval during the open test session for the series last month and was impressed with the outcome on the scoring monitors.
‘When we tested the car felt good on the track and I was comfortable behind the wheel,’ said Weston. ‘Many of the other cars at the test were working on qualifying set-up as well as race set-up, but we were focusing on the feel of the car for the race. When the test was over, we were sixth on the board and we were very happy with the overall performance. I think we have a good car for the race at Kentucky and I am looking forward to racing in the ARCA series and gaining the respect from some fellow racers.’
Weston will have consulting help from veteran crew chief, Sandy Jones during the Channel 5ø205 event. Jones, who currently works as crew chief on the No. 27 Brewco Motorsports Pontiac will coach Weston through the 137-lap event. Weston has competed at the Kentucky Speedway once before in his young racing career while driving in the Hills Brothers All Pro Series.
‘I enjoy running on the larger speedways and I know Sandy (Jones) will have a good set-up under the race car,’ said Weston. ‘The Busch Series team that Sandy works for held their test session at Kentucky just a few weeks ago and they had some good notes to work from. Overall I am just excited about running the ARCA Series in a Weston Motorsports-prepared race car.’
Weston got his start in motorsports at the age of eight when his father, Mike Weston, bought him a racing go-kart. Weston went on to win three championships and over 100 races in five years before moving on to four-cylinder cars and eventually Late Model Stock cars at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway. Weston is planning on running in a limited number of ARCA RE/MAX Series events in the 2003 season before contending for Rookie of the Year in 2004.
