 | CONCORD NC (5-8-03) After two weeks of racing on short tracks in Salem and Toledo, Brent Sherman is excited about returning to a mile-and-a-half track at Kentucky Speedway. While Sherman competed at Kentucky twice during the 2002 season, he is anticipating a strong run based on performances at intermediate tracks earlier in the 2003 season. |
‘When I competed there last season I don’t think I ran nearly as well as I could have,’ said Sherman. ‘But now that our program is on track and we have proven that the No. 44 Serta Mattress/Hickory Farms Ford is strong on the intermediate tracks, I feel like we will be a contender this weekend.’
In 2002 Sherman finished 25th during the Kentucky spring race and 11th during the summer event. However, Sherman has earned two top five finishes earlier in the 2003 season at the Atlanta Motor Speedway and Nashville Superspeedway and he hopes to continue that trend at Kentucky.
‘I’m really looking forward to getting back to the intermediate speedways,’ said Sherman. ‘I was pleased with our performance on the short tracks, but we lost some ground in the points at Salem and I’m looking to gain ground again starting this weekend. We feel like we have a solid car for Kentucky and I’m looking for a win in the very near future.’
Sherman currently sits in the fourth position in championship points, only 85 points out of the third position. Sherman has earned two top five finishes and three top ten finishes in the first five events. The Channel 5-205 will air live on the SPEED Channel at 8 pm ET on Saturday, May 10.
