 | DAWSONVILLE GA (5-5-03) The Coach Jerry Glanville and his #81 Glanville Motorsports Dodge Intrepid racing team will do double duty this weekend in the ARCA RE/MAX Series Channel 5-205 at Kentucky Speedway. |
In addition to competing in the race, Glanville will be racing to create awareness and raise funds for childhood cancer research through an affiliation with www.bubbabear.com, the official sponsor of Bubba Bear's Race Against Childhood Cancer program to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
"I really enjoy helping the kids at St. Jude," said Glanville "These kids have every element that it takes to be a winner in their race against childhood cancer - determination, dedication and desire....that's what it takes to win....and I have witnessed miracles through the work at St. Jude Hospital. The research being done in Tennessee is saving children's lives all over the world. When the folks at Bubba Bear called on us again, I said sure thing... let's do it."
Because of the research that has been done at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital since it was founded by the late Danny Thomas in 1962, the survival rate of childhood cancer has increases from 4% to 80% today.
"Coach Glanville has donated the space on his race car to help us promote Bubba Bear's Race Against Childhood Cancer program," said Benny Sims, President of Bubba Bear Properties and Volunteer Coordinator of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. "Jerry helped us last August with a similar promotion at the Nashville Superspeedway which netted $4540 in contributions for childhood cancer research. We are hopeful to top that amount with this event in Kentucky," Sims added.
Race fans can participate in Bubba Bear's Race Against Childhood Cancer to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital by visiting the www.bubbabear.com web site.
Heading into this Saturday night's Channel 5-205 at Kentucky Speedway, Glanville is coming off a solid 6th place finish at Nashville Superspeedway back in April. In addition, Glanville finished 6th at Kentucky in 2002.
The Channel 5-205, is scheduled to roll off under the lights at Kentucky Speedway this Saturday night, May 10. The event will air live on SPEED Channel from 8 pm to 10 pm eastern.
