In Memory of Jimmy Jones....By Mark Loesel

In Memory of Jimmy Jones....by Mark Loesel (5-6-03) Throughout my life I have had the privilege of meeting, working with and watching several great men.  Sports figures, business men, writers and even a few politicians.  Everyone has their own list.  My friend Jimmy Jones was not on my list of great men.  Jimmy (left) was a giant.

In my life, in the lives of great men, and especially in the lives of Betsy and her son Mike, Jimmy was a gentle giant.  He was a man you listened to. While you may not have agreed with his view or method, to not take it into consideration was foolhardy.  Jimmy was selfless.  He wanted nothing more than to see you happy and succeed.

I only knew Jimmy a few short years.  I can't remember Jimmy ever doing anything but trying to help others.  Off the track he lit up the room like no one I have ever met. I always looked forward to my next visit with him. Jimmy was a man I could call and discuss mechanical, philosophical or spiritual issues with 24/7.  He always made time.  Last week my son asked me to help him with his motor in his racecar. He had exhausted the resources of his college instructors and their extensive machine shop. I was clueless.  I called Jimmy.  He stopped what he was doing, and aware of my limited knowledge and resources, patiently walked me though the fix.  I followed his instructions and it worked.  My son thinks I'm a hero.  That was Jimmy, again making someone else look good.  Sadly I didn't call him back to thank him and tell him it worked.

Jimmy's memory will never leave me or many others.  I know down the road I'll see him again. ttfn Jimmy.
