Maran Wraps up Flat Rock Season with Win

FLAT ROCK MI (10-8-07)--Flat Rock Speedway concluded its 2007 racing season Saturday afternoon on a unseasonably warm and sunny day. Jeff Maran captured the Sierra Mist 250 lap Enduro, Michael Dailey notched the Enduro championship while Brad Turner took the win in the 25 lap 4 Cylinder main event. A total of 24 wives/girlfriends and mechanics took part in 3-10 lap events to wrap up the year at the ยจ mile paved oval.

A total of 37 cars started the 250 lap contest. Early leader Jeff Maran paced the field at the get-go. The heat wore on the field throughout the day. Maran continued to pace the field past the half-way mark and with 100 laps to go was still in charge. Jeff Metdpenningen and Rick Johnson tried to chase down Maran, but to no avail as Jeff scored the $1000 win. Metdpenningen was second, Robb Remick third, Dailey fourth and Johnson was fifth, followed by David Wallace, Mike Nocella, Jeff Rohde, Bill Carberry and Tom Sprotberry.

Dailey's fourth place run gave him enough points to capture the first-ever Enduro crown at Flat Rock. The top 5 in the final points will be honored at the annual awards banquet in November.

Brad Turner led from start to finish in the non-stop 25 lap 4 Cylinder feature event. Turner had plenty of company as a great 4 car battle for second continued on for the entire event, which ran without a yellow flag. At the stripe Turner had a car length over Mike Bershback, who nipped Kyle Worley for second. Fourth was Ray McClure, coming from 11th spot and fifth went to Tim Wade. David Price, Matt Hall, Josh Remick, Derrick Sheppard and Billy Cronce completed the top ten finishers.

Amanda Freeman piloted her brother Tom's #44 to the win in the 10 lap Ladies Stock Car feature over Tammy Holly, Dianne LaFollette, Kathy Diovardi, Dale Coop and Missy Ackron.

Jason Julien, a mechanic for Robb Remick's Enduro car, jumped into Josh Remick's 4 Cylinder to win their 10 lap main event over Gerald Mills, Rodney Parker, Jennifer Cronce, Lori Sheppard and Mike Worth.

Chris Metdepennigen topped Norm Maran, Dan Dreher Jr., Jamie Moore, Harold Ackron Sr., Tim Roark, Byron LaFollette, Matthew Galvin, Stephen Bednar, Pat Banas, Jeffrey Kurzyniec and Kevin Cunningham for the victory in the 10 lap Men's Mechanics race of the day.

The 2008 Flat Rock Speedway season will begin on Saturday evening, April 26 with the ARCA Late Models, Figure 8's and Street Stocks in action. The complete schedule will be posted by January 1 on the track's website at http://www.flatrockspeedway.com/.
