Flat Rock Speedway

(Flat Rock, Michigan—May 16, 2014) - Another group of entries have been received for the ARCA Discount Tire Late Model Gold Cup Series race #1, the Diamond Racing Products Joy Fair Memorial 100, set for Saturday, May 24 at Flat Rock Speedway. A rain date of Sunday, May 25 has been established.

The legendary Fair, who passed away December 10, 2011 at the age of 81, was one of the top short track racers in the country, amassing over 800 career feature victories around the Midwest in his lifetime. Joy was a 10-time Flat Rock Speedway champion and 7-time Toledo Speedway champ. Fair is the all-time feature win leader for the ARCA Late Model division at Flat Rock with 159 victories. Joy also is the career win leader at Toledo with 97 checkered flags in Late Model competition.

The newest crop of entries arriving include 3-time Flat Rock champion Paul Pelletier, multi-time Street Stock and Sportsman titlist Ron Allen, Flat Rock’s 2006 Street Stock king and 2013 Late Model runner-up Steve Cronenwett Jr., 2^nd year Late Model pilot Jeff Vrsek and rookie Bryan Richards. 1991 Flat Rock and 2004 Toledo Late Model king Joe Hawes and his son, Steve, have also filed entries. Mooresville, NC resident Brad Riethmeyer is also entered, at the wheel of Bob Fox’s #56 machine.  A field of 25-35 Late Models are expected for the May 24 event.

The 100 lap contest will award the winner $2000, with $500 to start posted for the 24 car field. If there are 32 cars or more, a 25 lap B Main will be run, with $500 to win posted for this race. Practice, time trials, last-chance race(s) and the possible B Main will make up the race card. DTS Drive Train Specialists of Warren, MI will award a $100 bonus to the fastest qualifier for all five (5) of the Discount Tire Gold Cup events in 2014.

The ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists will also be in action with a full race program for the Saturday, May 24 event.

The pit gates open at 1:30, practice begins at 3, the front gate and ticket office opens at 3, time trials are at 5 and racing begins at 7 p.m.
