Flat Rock Speedway

(Flat Rock, Michigan—May 19, 2014):  Several additional entries arrived this weekend for the Diamond Racing Products Joy Fair Memorial 100, set for Saturday, May 24 at Flat Rock Speedway.  Defending Discount Tire Gold Cup champion Scott Hantz and 2012 champion Dakota Carlson have filed entries for this prestigious event, which is race number 1 of the 5 race Gold Cup Series in 2014.  A rain date of Sunday, May 25 has been established for this race.

The legendary Fair, who passed away December 10, 2011 at the age of 81, was one of the top short track racers in the country, amassing over 800 career feature victories around the Midwest in his lifetime.  Joy was a 10-time Flat Rock Speedway champion and 7-time Toledo Speedway champ.  Fair is the all-time feature win leader for the ARCA Late Model division at Flat Rock with 159 victories.  Joy also is the career win leader at Toledo with 97 checkered flags in Late Model competition. 

Hantz, the Angola, IN native, is seeking his first Moran Chevrolet outlaw Late Model win at “The Rock”.  Scott was runner-up at the track in a thrilling battle with Mike Root in 2012 in the Stan Yee Memorial 150, but the veteran does have 2 Flat Rock wins to his credit—a pair of ARCA/CRA Super Series stock-bodied Late Model events.  Carlson won Flat Rock’s 2013 season opener and was strong in the long distance races at the ¼ mile paved oval.  New Boston, MI driver Derek Wiley, rookie Grant Hedges and veteran Jimmy Alvis have also entered the race. A field of 25-35 Late Models are expected for the May 24 event. 

Lap money is being sold for just $5 per lap for the 100 lap contest Saturday night.  Edgar Brown (6 laps), Chuck Darling (1 lap), Absolute Taxidermy (4 laps) and Mike Damic Racing Photography (10 laps) are the early lap money sponsors.  To become a lap sponsor, call 734-782-2480 or 419-727-1100.

The 100 lap contest will award the winner $2000, with $500 to start posted for the 24 car field.  If there are 32 cars or more, a 25 lap B Main will be run, with $500 to win posted for this race.  Practice, time trials, last-chance race(s) and the possible B Main will make up the race card.  DTS Drive Train Specialists of Warren, MI will award a $100 bonus to the fastest qualifier for all five (5) of the Discount Tire Gold Cup events in 2014.

The ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists will also be in action with a full race program for the Saturday, May 24 event.

The pit gates open at 1:30, practice begins at 3, the front gate and ticket office opens at 3, time trials are at 5 and racing begins at 7 p.m.
