SCHROEDER STAYS HOT; 3 FOR 3 AT “THE ROCK”

Flat Rock, MI—June 3, 2017: Justin Schroeder wheeled around Paul Pelletier with 10 laps to go after a great side by side battle for several laps, on his way to his 3rd win in a row in the 50 lap Moran Chevrolet ARCA Late Model feature Saturday night on Scout Night-Kids Night at Flat Rock Speedway. In the process, Schroeder collected the $600 bonus “Dented Fender Mystery Award”, posted by an anonymous fan. The award is $100 per race if the fast qualifier wins the event, and rolls over if there is not a winner.
The Late Model contest had a botched start on the initial try, as outside pole man Jeff Plumb got crossed up, sending the field scattering. Joe Hawes was the victim in the mess and was not able to restart the race. Pelletier grabbed the lead on the second try and pulled away from Jimmy Thiel and Schroeder. That duo slowly reeled in the leader. Schroeder got to second by lap 22 and began his hunt for the lead. By lap 33, Pelletier and Justin were locked into a great dual-Paul on the bottom lane and Justin in the top groove. Around traffic, in traffic, the pair put on a great show. At lap 40, Schroeder steamed by and sailed to the win over Pelletier, Thiel, Steve Cronenwett Jr., Jeff Vrsek, Stan Yee Jr., Plumb, Frankie Jiovani, Dennis Rederstorf and Derrick Sheppard. Schroeder also posted the Moran Chevy quick time at 11:685. Heats wins went to Rederstorf and Thiel. Yee Jr. scored the Moran Chevy Hard Charger bonus.
An exciting 4-car battle for the lead kept the fans cheering in the 20 lap ARCA Victory Lane Quick Oil Change Figure 8 feature contest. Dan Apperson took the lead on the green, but coming down to complete the lap, Dennis Whisman Sr. tangled with Dan, sending him into a 360 spin. Apperson righted his machine and took off again. Whisman now became locked into that duel with Jeremy Miller, Jeremy Vanderhoof and Billy Earley. That foursome put on a fabulous show—Miller would pull even with Dennis, the back duo would stick the nose of their car looking for a gap lap after lap. With 2 go to, Jeremy Fragassi spun with the leaders bearing down entering turn 2 of the Figure 8 course. Whisman and Miller somehow avoided a collision, giving Vanderhoof an opening. Jeremy zipped to the bottom side to pick up the lead and the victory. Earley was second, Dennis Whisman Jr. third, Apperson’s strong drive back to the front got him to fourth, with Whisman Sr. fifth, followed by Miller, Travis Earley, Stephanie Bradley, John Lambert and Joe Vanderhoof. Earley led the 17 car field in the Fastime Racing Engines and Parts qualifying with a lap of 21:106. Dan Apperson, Bradley and Jacob Lee took the heat wins.
16 year old Ray Morneau Jr. slipped under Greg Studt with 2 laps to go and grabbed the win in the 25 lap ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock A Main race. Kyle Worley took the lead on the green. On lap 3, Dan Ford Jr. and Worley made contact, with both cars spinning. Neither took the blame, sending both cars to the rear of the 20 car field. Studt was now the leader and stayed out front despite several challenges. Morneau tried the high lane, then tucked back in as he dropped back to third spot behind Grant Hedges. Ray took the low lane, got back by Grant and then Studt as he sped to the win over Studt, Hedges, Rob Moore, Jeff Metdepenningen, Ford Jr., Guy Fire, Nick Shanks, Worley, and Scott Selmi.
3 different drivers led the 15 lap Street Stock B Main event, as James Pankow powered by Wilburn Parks on lap 11 to take the win. Rookie Trevor Farmer, in his first start, led for 5 laps until Parks zoomed by. Pankow used the high lane to advance and made the winning move with 4 to go. Parks was second, Randy Roberts third, Adam Jezylo fourth and James Baber fifth. Rich Abel, Chris Diovardi, Brian Moore, Farmer and John Smolinski rounded out the top ten. Morneau Jr. set the Fastime Racing Engines and Parts quick time for the 32 car field at 13:565. Hedges, Craig Lange, Jeff Luttermoser, Jezylo and Gary Calhoun captured the heat wins. Jezylo’s win was his first-ever at Flat Rock.
