SCHROEDER CONTINUES TO ROLL WITH FLAT ROCK WIN
Flat Rock, MI—July 29, 2017: Current point leader Justin Schroeder continued his story-book season as he notched his 5th win in 7 tries by capturing the 50 lap ARCA Moran Chevrolet Late Model feature Saturday night at Flat Rock Speedway on Glass Unlimited Night. Rob Randa, Ian Jezylo and Jeremy Miller also were victorious on a perfect summer evening at “The Rock”. Walter Kraus of Glass Unlimited presented bonus money and a trophy to each feature winner.
Despite a short field of cars, the 50 lap Late Model feature offered great racing up front for the lead. The all-green flag event saw Paul Pelletier grab the point at the green flag. Paul built up a comfortable margin, with Stan Yee Jr., Frankie Jiovani, Jimmy Thiel and Schroeder next in line trying to catch the leader. Jiovani called it a night as his engine began to sputter in the early stages of the race. At the half-way mark the top 3 of Pelletier, Schroeder and Thiel pulled away to stage their own battle. Those 3 drivers put on a sensational show for the fans, with Paul low, while Justin took the high to the high groove, as that duo ran door to door for nearly a dozen laps, while Thiel looked for an opening. The dogfight cleared up on lap 40 when the lead pair split a lapped car in turn 4. Schroeder, who started 7th, stayed up top and Pelletier dove low as Justin nosed by to take total control. Thiel got by Paul with 5 laps to go to take second spot , but Schroeder was in command to take another win. Thiel was second, Pelletier third, Yee Jr. fourth and Jeff Plumb fifth, followed by Steve Cronenwett Jr., Joe Hawes, Steve Hawes, Derrick Sheppard, Chris Benson, Jiovani, Joe Genise and Rob Randa. Jeff Vrsek scratched from the feature with mechanical issues. Schroeder scored the Moran Chevy fast time award at 11:797, was the Moran Chevy Hard Charger for the race and collected the $300 Dented Fender Mystery bonus that goes to the fast qualifier should they win the race also. Steve Hawes and Yee Jr. took the heat wins.
Rob Randa has won several Late Model features at the track, his last in 1997. After several years away from the sport, Rob returned with a Street Stock and eventually his Late Model also. Randa has been a threat to win for the past 2 months, and it all paid off Saturday night as he withstood challenges from several foes to win his first ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stock feature. Rob led every lap while Dan Ford Jr., Greg Studt and Guy Fire took turns applying the pressure. A pair of late-race restarts shuffled the deck, as Fire ducked low and moved up on Randa’s rear bumper. Rob held on for the win over Fire, Ford Jr., Jeff Metdepenningen, Ray Morneau Jr., Greg Studt, Steve Searles, Scott Selmi, Rob Moore Jr. and Clarity Patton.
Ian Jezylo took advantage of a yellow flag and led the final 6 laps to win the 15 lap Street Stock B Main event. The top 5 cars battled back and forth at the start, with Jerry Farmer leading the way. On lap 9, Jerry tangled with a lapped car, bringing out the yellow and sending Farmer to the tail of the field. Ian, who was just a couple car lengths behind Farmer at that point, was now the leader. On the restart, the battle heated up again as Wilburn Parks charged up on the outside lane with Rich Abel in tow. Ian, in just his second start of the year, held on for the win over Parks, Abel, Alan Kennedy, Trevor Farmer, Jerry Farmer, Justin Rodriguez, Adam Jeyzlo, Leroy Farmer and Robbie Loving. Studt set the Fastime Racing Engines and Parts quick time at 13:567 for the 31 car field, while Kennedy led the B cars at 14:259. Metdepenningen, Caleb Barron, Chris Diovardi, Parks and Jerry Farmer took the heat wins.
It was 20 laps of non-stop, near-misses at the intersection and all Jeremy Miller Saturday as he picked up his first win of 2017 in the ARCA Victory Lane Quick Oil Change Figure 8 feature race. Miller took the lead at the green and set a fast pace for the 17 car field, zipping in and out of traffic and the intersection to score the win over Gary Cronenwett, Dan Apperson, Billy Earley, Jeremy Vanderhoof, Dennis Whisman, Scott Apperson, Ethen Lambert, Dennis Whisman Jr. and Travis Earley. Joseph Vanderhoof, Eugene Worden, Randy Roberts, Parker Wade, James Vanderhoof, Stephanie Bradley and Les Syrning were next in line at the finish. Billy Earley posted the Fastime Racing Engines and Parts quick time at 20:972, with heat wins to Parker Wade, Whisman Jr. and Jeremy Vanderhoof.
