PREVIEW: Saturday's Moran Chevrolet Stan Yee 150 is Pivotal

July 15, 2024 -- The biggest race of the year at Flat Rock Speedway is this Saturday night, July 27th, with the 16th running of the Moran Chevrolet Stan Yee Memorial 150 presented by DTS Drive Train Specialists and Fraza.

This 150-lap Outlaw Super Late Model event is one of the most highly sought-after races in the region, and the longest race of the season for the Moran Chevrolet Outlaw Super Late Models division.

The race is named after Stan Yee Sr, a championship late model car builder who competed in the midwest short track racing scene for over 40 years. Yee Sr captured a number of victories as an owner to many of the biggest talents in late model racing across the midwest. Yee Sr, a Chinese-American East Detroiter, was known as an innovator and a champion for the length of his career. Yee’s favorite race, the 150-lap late model feature, was named in his honor after he passed in 2008.

He was an innovator, a man of many talents and a great car builder when it came to racing stock cars. Stan had many of the very best pilot his race cars throughout his car-owner career. Whether it be dirt or asphalt, Yee prepared winners.  In the 1960’s and part of the 1970’s, Stan dabbled in both types of cars, with Marv Parenteau and Joe Ruttman putting the famed #33 machines into victory lane.  Countless wins throughout the Midwest piled up as Yee became widely known for his car building and chassis expertise.

Yee is attributed to being the first to use rack & Pinion steering on an oval track car; now used in many types of oval racing cars including in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Yee's son, Stan Yee Jr, has had a great deal of success carrying the family name with the #33.

Stan Yee Jr is a generational racer who won the 2003 late model season championship in a family-built car. Yee Jr is expected to compete in this race in his family’s familiar #33 car. Yee took his first late model feature victory of the season on June 9, 2024 in front of an electric sold-out crowd in Flat Rock at CNV Enterprises School Bus Figure 8 Night, and once again on June 29th at JAC LED Autograph Night.

Yee Jr looks to take his first win in the race named after his father this Saturday night. He has some very stiff competition to work with.

Indiana's Craig Everage won a wild 15th running of the Moran Chevrolet Stan Yee 150 last summer, climbing from sixth to win in a drama-filled feature, with multiple leaders, comers-and-goers, and variable strategy in an action-packed night with a large crowd. Everage looks to trek back to Flat Rock and repeat as a winner of the Stan Yee 150.

Justin Claucherty won an action-packed Joy Fair 100 back in May, and looks to sweep the two longest races of the season at Flat Rock in the 2024 season for his third career feature win at Flat Rock.

New Boston’s Paul Pelletier comes into this race with a narrow lead in the season points standings, as he looks to take his third victory of the season. The veteran last won the Flat Rock 150 lap feature race in 2006, more than 17 years ago.

For drivers leading the pack without a win so far this season, Conner Zbozien may be top of mind for many race fans.

Zbozien currently sits second in the Moran Chevrolet Outlaw Super Late Models division point standings. The consistent young driver looks to take his first win of the season this Saturday, as well as looking down the road to capture his first ever full-season championship in the division. Zbozien drives the orange #45 car owned by Pat Moran and Dick Barker, and is competing while working on his degree in Mechanical Engineering at Kettering University.
