June Tidbits

Late Models:

  • John Ledwidge won his first career ARCA heat on June 9 and finished a career best 10th in the feature
  • Allen Jones had a career best finish in the feature, ninth, also on June 9
  • RJ Cornett had a career best finish of second place, after leading a good chunk of the feature on June 15
  • Steve Hawes had his second career Top 5, a fifth (his other was third), on June 9

Street Stocks

  • Jeremy Vanderhoof won three Street Stock A division features in a row. Last time it happened was with Greg Studt in 2022. In the Street Stock A division, as ultra-competitive as it is, in the last 20 years, winning more than 3 times in a row has only happened five times. Jeremy, Greg, Rand DeMaggio (2009), Scott Selmi did it twice … five times in a row in 2011 and four times in a row in 2005-2006 (last two in 2005 and first two in 2006) and Regan Ford in 2004.
  • Austin McKee had his career best finish, fifth, on June 1
  • Evan Batkins welcomes a new sponsor on his #15B, Industrial Process Piping, LLC to go along with his other sponsors CFO, Pink Ribbon Riders , Blue Water Air Compressor and Gemini Electric
  • Oh where or where have the Street Stockers gone? Normally by June we’re running a B division too. I looked back in my records back to 1983 and most of those years we had a B (and sometimes C division) features either opening night or within the first few races. In 2013 June 8 was the first time we had enough for a B feature. I’ve seen a handful of them on the results at Owosso in their Sportsman Division and maybe some are having trouble getting parts to finish. Whatever the reason, we have a quality over quantity in the division even with the smaller amount of cars, they put on a terrific race for us fans each night.

Figure 8s

  • Gary Cronenwett made his first start in the division on since August 2017.
  • Mathew Lee made his first start in the division on June 9
  • The Figure 8 feature rained on June 26 will be run on July 13, starting the evening off

JUNE WINNERS’ QUOTES

JUNE 9, Bus Night

  • Stan Yee Jr won his first race of the season. He also won this race (on Bus night) last year. “We had bad luck a few weekends ago during the Joy Fair 100, just broke a part and bad luck. The crew did a great job getting it back together. We weren't really great early and we made four or five changes and she came right back where she was. My guys did a great job today. Tonight, just like last year, was the last time we won in front of this huge, great crowd. I can't thank you guys enough for coming out to the Speedway.”
  • Only two of the weekly divisions run on Bus night, the OLMS and the Figure 8s. Greg Studt won the Figure 8 feature. Fun tidbit, the two cars that won were #33, and they both won this night last year too. “That was a tough night for cars …  mine barely made it, going in and out of gear but it made it. Want to thank my sponsors Carl's Furniture, Apollo Broach, Budget Tire, State Farm”

JUNE 15

  • Harold Fair Jr won the Outlaw Late Model Feature. It was his 10th ARCA feature at Flat Rock. “Those guys are so good (Conner Zbozien, Paul Pelletier). They're always so fast. And they're always the guys you got to be one of the three or four here that are always just on top of the board. So, it shows you my crew again. I mean, we were a little off and we made the wrong move, qualified, horrible, then made some corrections and then doubled up on it and then we're here again, so I gotta give it to my crew again. Honestly, earlier today, there's no way I had a chance at this. “You just put the hammer down and go and hope for the best when you hit the corner. It's that it’s such a double-edged sword you want to go but you know you can't you got to be patient. You got to wait and then you hope that something plays in your favor. We're not going to Owosso for the big one, Max is going, I’m gonna concentrate on one race at a time for the time being. I'd really like to thank Royal Truck and Trailer for being on our car for all these years, great people over there … Health Benefits, DTS Drive Train Specialists …  great people do the job every time. Thanks for everyone coming out. It was a nice run.”
  • Former Street Stock A Division Champion, Jeremy Vanderhoof won his third A feature in a row. “Yeah, we definitely missed the setup today. We're trying to get that long run speed. We didn't get it today. Starting position is the only thing that saved me. I don't know, everyone ran clean. I just got to thank my father-in-law for putting me in this car. He's the heart and soul of this. We got Heritage Car Care, Mac’s Towing, Gary Patrick Signs, Blossom Florist, Dan Doyle Race Engines … anyone needs a motor go see Dan, Alliance Catholic Credit Union, Arrow Truck, SP Guns and Ammo, B&F 4x4, Seigel Chiropractic and Gardeners Jewelry Shop. Yeah, I want to thank Martin's Tire and for all they do. They came on to sponsor my son’s Figure 8 this year. And then they do this bike giveaway. We get all these kids out here got all these fans out here. It's just a small gesture of what Ken and his whole staff does over there. I want to thank them and all your fans for coming out. Please keep coming out. Please keep supporting us so we can keep doing this.”

JUNE 29

  • Stan Yee won again tonight. He won a couple weeks ago with the race run on “Bus Night” and again today. He’s the only repeat winner in the Outlaw Late Model division this season. “Those guys (Max Fair and Conner Zbozien) are so good. They're always so fast. And they're always the guys you got to beat, one of the three or four here that are always just on top of the board. So it shows you how good my crew is again. I mean, we were a little off and we made the wrong move, qualified, horrible, then made some corrections and then doubled up on it and then we're here again. I gotta give it to my crew again. Honestly, earlier today, there's no way I had a chance at this. When we were racing the 104 (Max Fair), my spotter is yelling at me not to give him that much room. But you know, I found out once I started coming out a little, I started making better lap times too. So that's what happened at the end. You know, it was a better line, faster line and it helped us all the way through it too.”
  • Kenyon Knight won the rain shortened Street Stock A division. The race made it just past halfway, to lap 15 when the rain and the lightning hit the track. It was his second win of the season.

If you missed any of the races you can find it here: www.youtube.com/@MikeMiller28. The Metdepenningen Family also puts up some things here: www.youtube.com/@wowracing1835. If anyone else tapes all the races let me know and I’ll add you to the list.

I like hearing from the drivers whether you race at Flat Rock or Toledo. It’s a great way to get your sponsors mentioned each week. All it takes is a couple sentences about how your race night went. You write something on your Facebook or website each week? Send me a link and tell me if it’s okay to use and I’ll try to go look for it each week.
