Flat Rock Speedway Track Championships Up for Grabs on Saturday Night

Flat Rock Speedway Track Championships Up for Grabs on Saturday Night

(Temperance, MI – AUGUST 22, 2024) - Four drivers will write their name into the record book as champions at Flat Rock Speedway this Saturday night on Harris Mechanical Season Championship night, featuring a huge four-division program and a special Power Wheels derby as part of R&M Recycling Kids Night.

The battle for the Moran Chevrolet ARCA Outlaw Super Late Model championship has been intense all season, and it will be no different on Saturday night. Every lap will matter for both division points leader Paul Pelletier, a four-time track champion, and runner-up Connor Zbozien, who is looking for his first-ever track championship.

Pelletier’s self-owned familiar black-and-green No. 44 car has been stout all season, claiming 3 victories to push his career total to 27 checkered flags. Zbozien, driving for Michigan Motorsports Hall of Fame member and two-time Flat Rock Speedway late model champion Dick Barker, has been just as strong, virtually shadowing Pelletier every step along the way. Pelletier enters Harris Mechanical Season Championship Night with the slimmest of leads of Zbozien in the standings, just ten points.

They will have two opportunities to score points on Saturday night, with heat races scheduled before the final 50-lap feature of the season. It’s likely that whomever finishes higher in the feature will walk away with the championship trophy as well.

It’s not quite as close in the ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialist Street Stock division as reigning track champion Kenyon Knight seems well on his way to securing his second consecutive title. He leads Jeremy Vanderhoof by 100 markers headed into Saturday night’s action, while youngster Johnny Rangel is just 50 points out of second.

The Street Stockers will battle for 30 laps to determine the final feature winner of the season and to see of Knight will drive his way to his second straight championship.

The Studt name has been synonymous with the ARCA R&M Recycling Figure 8 division over the years, with patriarch Bob Studt scoring 115 career feature wins and 13 track championships over his storied career. His son Greg picked up where he left off, winning three Figure 8 championships as well as a Late Model title and a trio of Street Stock championships.

The 25-lap finale will feature 50 thrilling high-speed trips through the intersection, any one of which could turn a year’s worth of hard work upside down. Greg is in the driver’s seat to score his first Figure 8 championship since 2013 on Saturday night as he leads another three-time track champion, defending titlist Jeremy Vanderhoof by 45 points headed into Saturday’s action.

The final championship up for grabs is the inaugural ARCA Factory Stock 500 series title. The 100-lap feature will decide which member of the Metdepenningen clan will celebrate with the championship trophy. Kyle Metdepenningen leads with Jeff and Rayce tied for second, just 15 points behind.

A special addition to the on-track racing program will be a special Kids Power Wheels Derby, part of R&M Recycling Kids Night.

With four divisions in action, there will be a special start time on Saturday. Practice will begin at 2:30 PM, qualifying is set for 4 PM, and the Power Wheels Derby set for 5:30. Racing action will start at 6 PM. Sunday August 25 is the established rain date.

Tickets can be purchased at the gate. Please visit FlatRockSpeedway.com for event information and updates, including live timing & scoring throughout the night’s racing activities.
