RAIN WASHES OUT 2 of 3 FLAT ROCK FEATURES
Flat Rock, MI—July 30, 2016: Rain showers in the area put a stop to Flat Rock Speedway’s racing program Saturday evening after the heat races and the Street Stock A Main. The ARCA DTS Drive Train Specialists Street Stocks and the ARCA Victory Lane Oil Change Figure 8’s did a fantastic job in running 7 heat races and the 25 lap A Main in just over 1 hour before the rain set in.
The on again-off again light mist began prior to the race card and the rain became a bit heavier during the Street Stock B Main, postponing that event and the Figure 8 feature. Both of those races will be run next Saturday night, August 6.
Track management will honor all rain checks at their full face value for any of the remaining events on the 2016 schedule. Rain checks are to be turned in at the ticket windows upon arrival to the track. If there is a difference in ticket pricing on the night selected, the difference is to be paid at the window.
The “Tribute to Bob Rae”, honoring the memory of the former racer, saw Ray Morneau Jr. score the win in the 25 lap Street Stock A Main race. Greg and Tami Barron, Bob’s son-in-law and daughter, presented the trophy to Ray in the 7-Up Winner’s Circle. Collin Barron, Bob’s grandson, the driver of the night in the #103, carried the flags around for the National Anthems.
The great effort by the race teams to beat the rain continued as the 25 lap A Main ran without a yellow flag. With a 4 pulled for the inversion, Ray Morneau Jr. continued his luck of starting on the pole for the second straight week. Ray took off on the start as the pack battled for position. Greg Studt, starting 4th, fell back a bit and then charged up on the high groove but could not catch Morneau as he scored his 2nd win in a row and 3rd of the season. Studt was second, Landon Schuster third, Scott Selmi fourth and Pete Shrake fifth, followed by Rob Moore, Kyle Worley, James Hazlett, Jeff Metdepenningen and Craig Lange.
The B Main 15 lap race will now be rescheduled to next Saturday night, August 6, giving those cars 2 feature races next week. Hazlett, Metdepenningen, Jeff Luttermoser, Don Roberts and Joe Rozek took the heat wins. Studt set the Fastime Racing Engine and Parts quick time for the 32 car field at 13:630, while Jeffrey Kurzyniec led the B cars at 14:273.
Rain stopped the ARCA Victory Lane Oil Change Figure 8 feature also. That event will also be added to next Saturday’s show, giving fans a chance to see 2-Figure 8 feature races! The Fastime Racing Engine and Parts fast time went to Billy Earley at 20:978. Dennis Whisman Sr. and AJ Padgett took the heat race wins.
Flat Rock’s next event is slated for Saturday night, August 6. The Glass Unlimited/UAW Local 3000 Autograph Night is on tap! Fans can walk onto the track and meet their favorite drivers prior to the race card. In addition to the Street Stocks and Figure 8’s, the ARCA Moran Chevrolet Late Models will also be in action, while the TKC Go-Karts will stage exhibition races.
The time schedule has the pit gates opening at 2 p.m., practice begins at 4, time trials are set for 5:15, the on-track autograph session is set for 6:15 and racing begins at 7 p.m.
ALL tickets will go on sale race day at 4 p.m. when the box office opens and the front gates swing open for the fans.
